Everyone knows that Colorado is a great place to visit during the winter for some skiing, or during the summer for some hiking and adventure, but more and more these days, it seems that people are also thinking about Colorado as a great place to live! If the charming, “old town” feel of the Colorado ski towns appeals to you (not the towns that have been built up into resorts, but the ones that still hold onto their roots!), here are a few towns to consider looking into.

Durango: Durango is located in the southern part of the state, at an elevation of about 6,500 feet; while Durango is a bit difficult to access, this is a large part of what has allowed it to hang onto its small-town feel, and with close proximity to skiing and wilderness area, it can be the perfect combination of “escape” and “activity” for those looking for a change.

Silverthorne: Silverthorne is a small town of about 4,000 people right by several major ski areas; not only is Silverthorne known for its classic Colorado feel, but it is also known for the beauty of its surroundings, as a constant menu of breathtaking sights is afforded to all who visit or settle down.

Idaho Springs: Idaho Springs sits in the mountains about 30 minutes from Denver, and this close proximity to the city gives residents a chance to slip into the “city life” any time they so desire. But Idaho Springs is also full of “small town” flair – and when it comes to good eating, you cannot do much better than Colorado’s version of the deep dish pizza, which is the “mountain pies” of Idaho Springs.

The quiet beauty of Colorado might not be the right fit for everyone, but if you think that it might be the right fit for you, these three towns are great places to keep in mind – either for a visit, or for a permanent change and a new place to live!
